We celebrated the end of our LEGO project with a gallery opening at the Perkins Center for the Arts, in our school's town, Collingswood. The self portraits were displayed, along with sculptures students made with their LEGO leaders. Students arrived with my colleague, Regina Smith (who is their Autism 6-8 teacher). Gallery guests greeted the artists with placards and a red carpet. We ate food the students made and celebrated. It was an amazing experience, one of the highlights of my career. Special thanks to the Perkins Center for being overly helpful and accomodating. This project was generously funded by the Frederick Hipp grant and the NJEA. For press about the project and gallery show, go to: http://www.njpen.com/legos-leaders-show-the-faces-of-autism-in-collingswood/.
