Seashells for the NJ Shore

Luckily, our school community suffered only minor damage from Hurricane Sandy. We missed school for a few days and many people in town were without power for over a week. However, the NJ shore towns that we love have been significantly impacted. In the past we have made pins to fundraise money for the earthquake victims of Haiti and Japan. I never imagined that we would be fundraising for areas so close to home. Luckily those fundraisers prepared us to know what works, what makes the most money, and how to market our pins. I was inspired by fellow NJ art teachers, many of whom started an effort called "Shells for NJ Shores". We are joining this effort and decorating shells to make into pins. The pins are painted with acrylic and dripped with Dr. Martins' iridescent inks and micromite glitter. We are attaching pin back with hot glue. The middle school students are making the pins and selling them until we sell out. 100% of the proceeds will benefit the American Red Cross. Thanks to everyone for their hard work and support.
