Got Skittles?

Dondre is a student in my Art III class.  He was inspired to create a "pixelated" image after seeing a work made using thumbtacks at Teen Arts.  At first he thought of using push pins, but right after that, Trayvon Martin was killed.  Dondre decided that he wanted to honor him by creating a large portrait of Trayvon using Skittles.   The work is very large.  We hot glued 4 24x30 inch sheets of foam core for the background.   So far we have used about 20 bags of Skittles and we figure it will be at least 100 bags to complete the project.  We spend half of the class sorting colors of Skittles.  If I had Dondre start all over, I would have made him create a much smaller work!  At $2.69 per bag, this is going to be a very expensive project.  But, it looks great and is definately worth the time and money.
